Site-Watch Perimeter Security
Remotely managing facilities
Protecting the perimeter of sites
From utilities to prisons to airports. All need effective perimeter security to prevent unauthorized intruders:
- Gas Utility Facility Managers may be concerned with the possibility of intruders gaining access to highly explosive areas such as storage tank farms and mixing facilities
- Water Facility Managers may have concerns with intruders contaminating public water supplies
- Power Facility Managers have the threat of intruders gaining access to critical areas such as generating plants, electric sub stations, and line service/maintenance yards
From potential terrorists to graffiti artists, an effective security system will support a response that is appropriate for the threat.
A perimeter security system will monitor the fence line or boundary of a site and raise an alarm if the perimeter is breached. CCTV is the commonly used solution, allowing the perimeter of sites to be monitored from a central point. Sending security personnel to respond to every alarm is expensive and time consuming and even the best detection systems will generate false alarms. To make responses effective the cause of the alarm needs to be known before acting. Personnel should be used to focus on real incidents rather than attend false alarms, such as those caused by trees or wind. A simple CCTV implementation will consist of cameras constantly feeding images back to monitors in a guard house or control room.
